Revelation 9

1 And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit.
1 Καὶ ὁ πέμπτος ἄγγελος ἐσάλπισεν, καὶ εἶδον ἀστέρα ἐκ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ πεπτωκότα εἰς τὴν γῆν, καὶ ἐδόθη αὐτῷ ἡ κλεὶς τοῦ φρέατος τῆς ἀβύσσου.
2 And he opened the bottomless pit;

 and there arose a smoke out of

 the pit, as

 the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit.
2 Καὶ ἤνοιξεν τὸ φρέαρ τῆς ἀβύσσου, καὶ ἀνέβη καπνὸς ἐκ τοῦ φρέατος ὡς καπνὸς καμίνου καιομένης
WH μεγάλης
, καὶ ἐσκοτίσθη
WH ἐσκοτώθη
 ὁ ἥλιος καὶ ὁ ἀὴρ ἐκ τοῦ καπνοῦ τοῦ φρέατος.
3 And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power.
3 Καὶ ἐκ τοῦ καπνοῦ ἐξῆλθον ἀκρίδες εἰς τὴν γῆν, καὶ ἐδόθη αὐταῖς ἐξουσία, ὡς ἔχουσιν ἐξουσίαν οἱ σκορπίοι τῆς γῆς.
4 And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing,

 neither any tree; but only

 those men which have not the seal of God in their
ℵA ⟨their⟩
 foreheads.
4 Καὶ ἐρρέθη αὐταῖς ἵνα μὴ ἀδικήσωσιν
WH ἀδικήσουσιν
 τὸν χόρτον τῆς γῆς, οὐδὲ πᾶν χλωρόν, οὐδὲ πᾶν δένδρον, εἰ μὴ τοὺς ἀνθρώπους οἵτινες οὐκ ἔχουσιν
WH ἔχουσι
 τὴν σφραγῖδα τοῦ θεοῦ ἐπὶ τῶν μετώπων αὐτῶν.

5 And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man.
5 Καὶ ἐδόθη αὐταῖς ἵνα μὴ ἀποκτείνωσιν αὐτούς, ἀλλ’ ἵνα βασανισθῶσιν
WH βασανισθήσονται
 μῆνας πέντε· καὶ ὁ βασανισμὸς αὐτῶν ὡς βασανισμὸς σκορπίου, ὅταν παίσῃ ἄνθρωπον.
6 And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee

 from them.
6 Καὶ ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις ἐκείναις ζητήσουσιν οἱ ἄνθρωποι τὸν θάνατον, καὶ οὐ μὴ εὑρήσουσιν αὐτόν· καὶ ἐπιθυμήσουσιν ἀποθανεῖν, καὶ φεύξεται

 ἀπ’ αὐτῶν ὁ θάνατος.

7 And the shapes
ℵA ⟨likenesses⟩
 of the locusts were like unto horses prepared unto battle; and on their heads were as it were crowns like gold, and their faces were as the faces of men.
7 Καὶ τὰ ὁμοιώματα τῶν ἀκρίδων ὅμοια ἵπποις ἡτοιμασμένοις εἰς πόλεμον, καὶ ἐπὶ τὰς κεφαλὰς αὐτῶν ὡς στέφανοι χρυσοῖ
WH ὅμοιοι χρυσῷ
, καὶ τὰ πρόσωπα αὐτῶν ὡς πρόσωπα ἀνθρώπων.
8 And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as the teeth of lions.
8 Καὶ εἶχον
WH εἶχαν
 τρίχας ὡς τρίχας γυναικῶν, καὶ οἱ ὀδόντες αὐτῶν ὡς λεόντων ἦσαν.
9 And they had breastplates, as it were breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots of many horses running to battle.
9 Καὶ εἶχον
WH εἶχαν
 θώρακας ὡς θώρακας σιδηροῦς, καὶ ἡ φωνὴ τῶν πτερύγων αὐτῶν ὡς φωνὴ ἁρμάτων ἵππων πολλῶν τρεχόντων εἰς πόλεμον.
10 And they had tails like unto scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and their power was
ℵA ⟨stings; and in their tails was their power⟩
 to hurt men five months.
10 Καὶ ἔχουσιν οὐρὰς ὁμοίας σκορπίοις, καὶ κέντρα. Καὶ ἐν ταῖς οὐραῖς αὐτῶν ἐξουσίαν ἔχουσιν τοῦ
WH ἡ ἐξουσία αὐτῶν
 ἀδικῆσαι τοὺς ἀνθρώπους μῆνας πέντε.
11 And they had
ℵA ⟨They have⟩
 a king over them, which is
ℵ ⟨their king,⟩; A ⟨over them a king,⟩
 the angel of the bottomless pit,
A ⟨prince of the bottomless pit, the angel⟩
 whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon.
11 Ἔχουσαι βασιλέα

 ἄγγελον τῆς ἀβύσσου· ὄνομα αὐτῷ Ἑβραϊστὶ Ἀββαδών,

12 One woe is past; and, behold, there come two woes more hereafter

12 Ἡ οὐαὶ ἡ μία ἀπῆλθεν· ἰδού, ἔρχεται ἔτι δύο οὐαὶ μετὰ ταῦτα.
13 And

 the sixth angel sounded, and I heard a voice from the four horns of

 the golden altar which is before God,
13 Καὶ ὁ ἕκτος ἄγγελος ἐσάλπισεν, καὶ ἤκουσα φωνὴν μίαν ἐκ τῶν τεσσάρων

14 Saying to the sixth

WH λέγοντα
 τῷ ἕκτῳ ἀγγέλῳ ὁ ἔχων τὴν σάλπιγγα, Λῦσον τοὺς τέσσαρας ἀγγέλους τοὺς δεδεμένους ἐπὶ τῷ ποταμῷ τῷ μεγάλῳ Εὐφράτῃ.
15 And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day,

 and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men.
15 Καὶ ἐλύθησαν οἱ τέσσαρες ἄγγελοι οἱ ἡτοιμασμένοι εἰς τὴν ὥραν καὶ εἰς τὴν

 ἡμέραν καὶ μῆνα καὶ ἐνιαυτόν, ἵνα ἀποκτείνωσιν τὸ τρίτον τῶν ἀνθρώπων.
16 And the number of the army of the horsemen were two hundred thousand thousand: and

16 Καὶ ὁ ἀριθμὸς τῶν στρατευμάτων τοῦ ἵππου
WH ἱππικοῦ δὶς
 μυριάδες μυριάδων· ἤκουσα τὸν ἀριθμὸν αὐτῶν.
17 And thus I saw the horses in the vision, and them that sat on
ℵ ⟨upon⟩
 them, having breastplates of fire, and of jacinth, and brimstone: and the heads of the horses were as the heads of lions; and out of their mouths issued fire and smoke and brimstone.
17 Καὶ οὕτως εἶδον τοὺς ἵππους ἐν τῇ ὁράσει, καὶ τοὺς καθημένους ἐπ’ αὐτῶν, ἔχοντας θώρακας πυρίνους καὶ ὑακινθίνους καὶ θειώδεις· καὶ αἱ κεφαλαὶ τῶν ἵππων ὡς κεφαλαὶ λεόντων, καὶ ἐκ τῶν στομάτων αὐτῶν ἐκπορεύεται πῦρ καὶ καπνὸς καὶ θεῖον.
18 By these three
A ⟨three plagues⟩; ℵ ⟨plagues⟩
 was the third part of men killed, by the fire, and by the smoke, and by
ℵA ⟨the smoke and⟩
 the brimstone, which issued out of their mouths.
18 Ἀπὸ τῶν τριῶν πληγῶν τούτων ἀπεκτάνθησαν τὸ τρίτον τῶν ἀνθρώπων, ἀπὸ
WH ἐκ
 τοῦ πυρὸς καὶ τοῦ καπνοῦ καὶ τοῦ θείου τοῦ ἐκπορευομένου ἐκ τῶν στομάτων αὐτῶν.
19 For their power
ℵA ⟨the power of the horses⟩
 is in their mouth, and in their tails: for their tails were like unto serpents, and had heads, and with them they do hurt.
19 Ἡ γὰρ ἐξουσία τῶν ἵππων ἐν τῷ στόματι αὐτῶν ἐστίν, καὶ ἐν ταῖς οὐραῖς αὐτῶν· αἱ γὰρ οὐραὶ αὐτῶν ὅμοιαι ὄφεων
WH ὄφεσιν
, ἔχουσαι κεφαλάς, καὶ ἐν αὐταῖς ἀδικοῦσιν.
20 And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues
ℵ ⟨their plagues⟩
 yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk:
20 Καὶ οἱ λοιποὶ τῶν ἀνθρώπων, οἳ οὐκ ἀπεκτάνθησαν ἐν ταῖς πληγαῖς ταύταις, οὐ μετενόησαν ἐκ τῶν ἔργων τῶν χειρῶν αὐτῶν, ἵνα μὴ προσκυνήσωσιν
WH προσκυνήσουσιν
 τὰ δαιμόνια, καὶ τὰ εἴδωλα τὰ χρυσᾶ καὶ τὰ ἀργυρᾶ καὶ τὰ χαλκᾶ καὶ τὰ λίθινα καὶ τὰ ξύλινα, ἃ οὔτε βλέπειν δύναται,
WH δύνανται
 οὔτε ἀκούειν, οὔτε περιπατεῖν·
21 Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication
ℵA ⟨wickedness⟩
, nor of their thefts.
21 καὶ οὐ μετενόησαν ἐκ τῶν φόνων αὐτῶν, οὔτε ἐκ τῶν φαρμακειῶν
WH φαρμάκων
 αὐτῶν, οὔτε ἐκ τῆς πορνείας αὐτῶν, οὔτε ἐκ τῶν κλεμμάτων αὐτῶν.
