Luke 9
1 Then he called his twelve disciples

5 And whosoever will not receive you

.11 And the people, when they knew it, followed him: and he received them, and spake unto them of the kingdom of God, and healed them that had need of healing.

to wear away, then came the twelve, and said unto him, Send the multitude away, that they may go into the towns and country round about, and lodge, and get victuals: for we are here in a desert place.12 Ἡ δὲ ἡμέρα ἤρξατο κλίνειν· προσελθόντες δὲ οἱ δώδεκα εἶπον

αὐτῷ, Ἀπόλυσον τὸν ὄχλον, ἵνα ἀπελθόντεςWH πορευθέντες
εἰς τὰς κύκλῳ κώμας καὶ τοὺςWH omit
ἀγροὺς καταλύσωσιν, καὶ εὕρωσιν ἐπισιτισμόν· ὅτι ὧδε ἐν ἐρήμῳ τόπῳ ἐσμέν.13 But he said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they said, We have no more but five loaves and two fishes; except we should go and buy meat for all this people.

they were about five thousand men. And he said to his disciples, Make them sit down by fiftiesℵB ⟨about fifties⟩
in a company.14 Ἦσαν γὰρ ὡσεὶ ἄνδρες πεντακισχίλιοι. Εἶπεν δὲ πρὸς τοὺς μαθητὰς αὐτοῦ, Κατακλίνατε αὐτοὺς κλισίας [+]

ἀνὰ πεντήκοντα.15 And they did so, and made them all sit down.
15 Καὶ ἐποίησαν οὕτως, καὶ ἀνέκλιναν

ἅπαντας.16 Then he took the five loaves and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed them, and brake, and gave to the disciples to set before the multitude.
16 Λαβὼν δὲ τοὺς πέντε ἄρτους καὶ τοὺς δύο ἰχθύας, ἀναβλέψας εἰς τὸν οὐρανόν, εὐλόγησεν αὐτούς, καὶ κατέκλασεν, καὶ ἐδίδου τοῖς μαθηταῖς παρατιθέναι

τῷ ὄχλῳ.17 And they did eat, and were all filled: and there was taken up of fragments that remained to them

18 ¶ And it came to pass, as he was alone praying, his disciples were with him: and he

asked them, saying, Whom say the peopleA ⟨men⟩
that I am?18 ¶ Καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ εἶναι αὐτὸν προσευχόμενον καταμόνας,

συνῆσαν αὐτῷ οἱ μαθηταί· καὶ ἐπηρώτησεν αὐτούς, λέγων, Τίνα με [+]WH οἱ ὄχλοι
λέγουσιν οἱ ὄχλοιWH omit
εἶναι;19 They answering said, John the Baptist; but some say, Elias; and others say, that one of the old prophets is risen again.
19 Οἱ δὲ ἀποκριθέντες εἶπον, Ἰωάννην
WH εἶπαν Ἰωάνην
τὸν βαπτιστήν· ἄλλοι δὲ Ἠλίαν·WH Ἠλείαν,
ἄλλοι δὲ ὅτι Προφήτης τις τῶν ἀρχαίων ἀνέστη.20 He said unto them, But whom say ye that I am? Peter answering said, The Christ of God.

τοῦτο,22 Saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be slain, and be raised

the third day.22 εἰπὼν ὅτι Δεῖ τὸν υἱὸν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου πολλὰ παθεῖν, καὶ ἀποδοκιμασθῆναι ἀπὸ τῶν πρεσβυτέρων καὶ ἀρχιερέων καὶ γραμματέων, καὶ ἀποκτανθῆναι, καὶ τῇ τρίτῃ ἡμέρᾳ ἀναστῆναι
WH ἐγερθῆναι
.23 ¶ And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
23 Ἔλεγεν δὲ πρὸς πάντας, Εἴ τις θέλει ὀπίσω μου ἐλθεῖν, ἀπαρνησάσθω
WH ἔρχεσθαι, ἀρνησάσθω
ἑαυτόν, καὶ ἀράτω τὸν σταυρὸν αὐτοῦ, [+]WH καθ’ ἡμέραν,
καὶ ἀκολουθείτω μοι.24 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.
24 Ὃς γὰρ ἐὰν
WH ἂν
θέλῃ τὴν ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ σῶσαι, ἀπολέσει αὐτήν· ὃς δ’ ἂν ἀπολέσῃ τὴν ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ ἕνεκεν ἐμοῦ, οὗτος σώσει αὐτήν.25 For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?
25 Τί γὰρ ὠφελεῖται ἄνθρωπος, κερδήσας τὸν κόσμον ὅλον, ἑαυτὸν δὲ ἀπολέσας ἢ ζημιωθείς;
26 For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father's, and of the holy angels.
26 Ὃς γὰρ ἂν ἐπαισχυνθῇ με καὶ τοὺς ἐμοὺς λόγους, τοῦτον ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐπαισχυνθήσεται, ὅταν ἔλθῃ ἐν τῇ δόξῃ αὐτοῦ καὶ τοῦ πατρὸς καὶ τῶν ἁγίων ἀγγέλων.
27 But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God.
27 Λέγω δὲ ὑμῖν ἀληθῶς, εἰσίν τινες τῶν ὧδε ἑστώτων,
WH αὐτοῦ ἑστηκότων
οἳ οὐ μὴ γεύσωνται θανάτου, ἕως ἂν ἴδωσιν τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ θεοῦ.28 ¶ And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings, he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray.
28 ¶ Ἐγένετο δὲ μετὰ τοὺς λόγους τούτους ὡσεὶ ἡμέραι ὀκτώ, καὶ

καὶ Ἰάκωβον, ἀνέβη εἰς τὸ ὄρος προσεύξασθαι.29 And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering.
29 Καὶ ἐγένετο, ἐν τῷ προσεύχεσθαι αὐτόν, τὸ εἶδος τοῦ προσώπου αὐτοῦ ἕτερον, καὶ ὁ ἱματισμὸς αὐτοῦ λευκὸς ἐξαστράπτων.
30 And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias:
30 Καὶ ἰδού, ἄνδρες δύο συνελάλουν αὐτῷ, οἵτινες ἦσαν Μωσῆς
WH Μωυσῆς
καὶ ἨλίαςWH Ἠλείας
,31 Who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem.
31 οἳ ὀφθέντες ἐν δόξῃ ἔλεγον τὴν ἔξοδον αὐτοῦ ἣν ἔμελλεν
WH ἤμελλεν
πληροῦν ἐν Ἱερουσαλήμ.32 But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep: and when they were awake, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him.
32 Ὁ δὲ Πέτρος καὶ οἱ σὺν αὐτῷ ἦσαν βεβαρημένοι ὕπνῳ· διαγρηγορήσαντες δὲ εἶδον
WH εἶδαν
τὴν δόξαν αὐτοῦ, καὶ τοὺς δύο ἄνδρας τοὺς συνεστῶτας αὐτῷ.33 And it came to pass, as they departed from him, Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias: not knowing what he said.
33 Καὶ ἐγένετο, ἐν τῷ διαχωρίζεσθαι αὐτοὺς ἀπ’ αὐτοῦ, εἶπεν [+]

Πέτρος πρὸς τὸν Ἰησοῦν, Ἐπιστάτα, καλόν ἐστιν ἡμᾶς ὧδε εἶναι· καὶ ποιήσωμεν σκηνὰς τρεῖς, μίαν σοί, καὶ μίαν Μωσῇ,WH Μωυσεῖ
καὶ μίαν Ἠλίᾳ·WH Ἠλείᾳ,
μὴ εἰδὼς ὃ λέγει.34 While he thus spake, there came a cloud, and overshadowed
ℵB ⟨it was overshadowing⟩
them: and they feared as they entered into the cloud.34 Ταῦτα δὲ αὐτοῦ λέγοντος, ἐγένετο νεφέλη καὶ ἐπεσκίασεν
WH ἐπεσκίαζεν
αὐτούς· ἐφοβήθησαν δὲ ἐν τῷ ἐκείνουςWH omit
εἰσελθεῖν [+]WH αὐτοὺς
εἰς τὴν νεφέλην.35 And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved

Son: hear him.35 Καὶ φωνὴ ἐγένετο ἐκ τῆς νεφέλης, λέγουσα, Οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ υἱός μου ὁ ἀγαπητός·

αὐτοῦ ἀκούετε.36 And when the voice was past, Jesus was found alone. And they kept it close, and told no man in those days any of those things which they had seen.

.37 ¶ And it came to pass, that on the next day, when they were come down from the hill, much people met him.

τῇ ἑξῆς ἡμέρᾳ, κατελθόντων αὐτῶν ἀπὸ τοῦ ὄρους, συνήντησεν αὐτῷ ὄχλος πολύς.38 And, behold, a man of the company cried out, saying, Master, I beseech thee, look upon my son: for he is mine only child.
38 Καὶ ἰδού, ἀνὴρ ἀπὸ τοῦ ὄχλου ἀνεβόησεν,

λέγων, Διδάσκαλε, δέομαί σου, ἐπίβλεψαι ἐπὶ τὸν υἱόν μου, ὅτι μονογενής [+]WH μοί
ἐστίν μοι·WH omit
39 And, lo,

a spirit taketh him, and he suddenly crieth out; and it tearethℵ ⟨dasheth and teareth⟩
him that he foameth again, and bruising him hardly departeth from him.39 καὶ ἰδού, πνεῦμα λαμβάνει αὐτόν, καὶ ἐξαίφνης
WH ἐξέφνης
κράζει, καὶ σπαράσσει αὐτὸν μετὰ ἀφροῦ, καὶ μόγιςWH μόλις
ἀποχωρεῖ ἀπ’ αὐτοῦ, συντρῖβον αὐτόν.40 And I besought thy disciples to cast him out; and they could not.
40 Καὶ ἐδεήθην τῶν μαθητῶν σου ἵνα ἐκβάλωσιν αὐτό, καὶ οὐκ ἠδυνήθησαν.
41 And Jesus answering said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you, and suffer you? Bring thy son hither.
41 Ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν, Ὦ γενεὰ ἄπιστος καὶ διεστραμμένη, ἕως πότε ἔσομαι πρὸς ὑμᾶς, καὶ ἀνέξομαι ὑμῶν; Προσάγαγε [+]

τὸν υἱόν σου ὧδε.WH omit
42 And as he was yet a coming, the devil threw him down, and tare him. And Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the child, and delivered him again to his father.
42 Ἔτι δὲ προσερχομένου αὐτοῦ, ἔρρηξεν αὐτὸν τὸ δαιμόνιον καὶ συνεσπάραξεν· ἐπετίμησεν δὲ ὁ Ἰησοῦς τῷ πνεύματι τῷ ἀκαθάρτῳ, καὶ ἰάσατο τὸν παῖδα, καὶ ἀπέδωκεν αὐτὸν τῷ πατρὶ αὐτοῦ.
43 ¶ And they were all amazed at the mighty power of God. But while they wondered every one at all things which Jesus did
ℵB ⟨he was doing⟩; A ⟨Jesus was doing⟩
, he said unto his disciples,43 Ἐξεπλήσσοντο δὲ πάντες ἐπὶ τῇ μεγαλειότητι τοῦ θεοῦ. ¶ Πάντων δὲ θαυμαζόντων ἐπὶ πᾶσιν οἷς ἐποίησεν ὁ Ἰησοῦς,

εἶπεν πρὸς τοὺς μαθητὰς αὐτοῦ,44 Let these sayings sink down into your ears: for the Son of man shall be delivered into the hands of men.
44 Θέσθε ὑμεῖς εἰς τὰ ὦτα ὑμῶν τοὺς λόγους τούτους· ὁ γὰρ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου μέλλει παραδίδοσθαι εἰς χεῖρας ἀνθρώπων.
45 But they understood not this saying, and it was hid from them, that they perceived it not: and they feared to ask him of that saying.
45 Οἱ δὲ ἠγνόουν τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο, καὶ ἦν παρακεκαλυμμένον ἀπ’ αὐτῶν, ἵνα μὴ αἴσθωνται αὐτό· καὶ ἐφοβοῦντο ἐρωτῆσαι αὐτὸν περὶ τοῦ ῥήματος τούτου.
46 ¶ Then there arose a reasoning among them, which of them should be greatest.
46 ¶ Εἰσῆλθεν δὲ διαλογισμὸς ἐν αὐτοῖς, τὸ τίς ἂν εἴη μείζων αὐτῶν.
47 And Jesus, perceiving
ℵB ⟨knowing⟩
the thought of their heart, took a child, and set him by him,47 Ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς ἰδὼν
WH εἰδὼς
τὸν διαλογισμὸν τῆς καρδίας αὐτῶν, ἐπιλαβόμενος παιδίου,WH παιδίον
ἔστησεν αὐτὸ παρ’ ἑαυτῷ,48 And said unto them, Whosoever shall receive this child in my name receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive
ℵ ⟨receiveth⟩
me receiveth him that sent me: for he that is least among you all, the same shall beℵB ⟨is⟩
great.48 καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς, Ὃς ἐὰν

δέξηται τοῦτο τὸ παιδίον ἐπὶ τῷ ὀνόματί μου ἐμὲ δέχεται· καὶ ὃς ἐὰνWH ἂν
ἐμὲ δέξηται δέχεται τὸν ἀποστείλαντά με· ὁ γὰρ μικρότερος ἐν πᾶσιν ὑμῖν ὑπάρχων οὗτος ἔσταιWH ἐστιν
μέγας.49 ¶ And John answered and said, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name; and we forbad him, because he followeth not with us.
49 ¶ Ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ ὁ Ἰωάννης
WH Ἰωάνης
εἶπεν, Ἐπιστάτα, εἴδομένWH εἴδαμέν
τινα ἐπὶWH ἐν
τῷ ὀνόματί σου ἐκβάλλοντα δαιμόνια· καὶ ἐκωλύσαμενWH ἐκωλύομεν
αὐτόν, ὅτι οὐκ ἀκολουθεῖ μεθ’ ἡμῶν.50 And

Jesus said unto him, Forbid him not: for he that is not against usℵBA ⟨you⟩

of the Samaritans, to make ready for him.52 καὶ ἀπέστειλεν ἀγγέλους πρὸ προσώπου αὐτοῦ· καὶ πορευθέντες εἰσῆλθον εἰς κώμην Σαμαρειτῶν, ὥστε

ἑτοιμάσαι αὐτῷ.53 And they did not receive him, because his face was as though he would go to Jerusalem.
53 Καὶ οὐκ ἐδέξαντο αὐτόν, ὅτι τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ ἦν πορευόμενον εἰς Ἱερουσαλήμ.

disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias didℵB omit
